Yes. We welcome children 9+ on most tours, with a few exceptions (e.g. the ‘Superior Happy Hour(s)’ Tour), as listed in the tour descriptions.
FYI – If the tour includes a tasting of an alcoholic beverage, there will be options for a small tasting of a non-alcoholic beverage to all guests under 19 years of age, and, for those who would prefer.
If you are interested in a family adventure, that is child-friendly (including smaller children and/or infants), or even a fun birthday-party – consider booking a private/custom tour that will cater to young foodies, adventurers and/or hikers!
Please contact us, as we’d love to co-create a fun, educational and kid-friendly private walking food tour catered to your interests – either in town, or in a nearby natural area!

No, this is only part of the experience (albeit a delicious one)! We are also storytellers. Our tours combine natural and cultural history, architectural commentary, local culture and culinary insight into a unique experience. Here on the northshore of Lake Superior, aka Gitchee Gami (as per the Anishinabek language) the land and people are full of rich stories. Our tours are designed to celebrate local distinctiveness, and to provide opportunities to invite guests to connect meaningfully with this place – the water, the land, and local people.
There will be surprises – whether you are a local, visiting family, or an international traveller.
Imagine walking through the city eating our local artisans’ most delicious foods, or hiking in nearby trails in the beautiful Boreal forest, while learning some of the natural and cultural history from real locals who deeply love this place.
Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, etc.) when you purchase your tickets. As long as we know in advance, we can accommodate your needs at most of the locations.
Please note: most restaurants can accommodate gluten-free options, however, very few food establishments can ensure that cross contamination will never occur, therefore it is difficult to guarantee that it is Celiac-safe.
Yes, advance ticket purchase is required. To maximize your chances of getting the date, time, and number of tickets you prefer, please book well in advance.
Your ticket price includes gratuities for the service provided at the food establishments for the food + drink included as part of the tour.
For your tour guides, gratuities are appreciated, although not mandatory, nor expected.
Yes, bathrooms are available during the tour at our selected food-tasting locations in Thunder Bay’s neighbourhoods. However, we strongly recommend that you use the facilities before meeting up, so that we can stay on schedule and maximize our tastings!
When participating in a guided hike + picnic adventure in nearby natural areas, bathroom locations are limited, and be prepared for more primitive options. It’s all part of the adventure 🙂
The tours are held rain, shine, or snow.
However, if there is a significant storm that is effecting safe travel, we will either reschedule, or turn your tour into a ‘gift certificate’ to redeem at a later date.
We advise you to check the weather conditions for your days event, and dress appropriately, including sturdy footwear. In the winter months, this sturdy, warm footwear needs to be appropriate for snow/ice conditions.
In the summer months, we can lend umbrellas (for urban tours) or ponchos (for guided hikes) if you do not have your own.
In the winter months, we recommend you dress in layers, with a (non-cotton) wicking layer, insulating layers of wool or fleece, and a wind-breaker/shell – topped with cozy mittens and a hat of course!
FYI – Please note: even in the summer months, here in Thunder Bay, onshore wind off Lake Superior can be very chilly!
Parking is available at or near each tour’s starting location, sometimes at a cost. After you purchase your ticket, you’ll receive a message with suggestions for both parking and/or options for other transportation.
